Proposal 8.1.1

Here is my Proposal follow the document.

6.3.1 Evaluation

My action plan for my visual film was to produce a promotional video that is easy to understand and aimed at the 20 age upwards. The planning was effective and make me more aware of what I needed to do in the certain time scale that I had to do it in. The most of my planning was done on a storyboard which has ideas on what I was going to film and in what order.

I did research on the venue from going on the internet and on there different social media sites o I could gather a good knowledge of what they had going on at the time and they were all about. This way of doing the research was very effective because it was fast and simple. In a perfect world I could have done more research with more time and then i could have gotten other people ideas and thoughts on what I had found in the early stages of the research.

I think the product does fit the criteria that I wanted to produce and it follows the codes and conventions of a video of that standard. The technical quality for example my iPhone could have been improved because it didn’t shoot HD quality as a DLSR would have but as we needed to produces it as a mobile journalism it did well enough. As a result of this production I developed my IMovie editing skills. I didn’t do any audience research before the production just because we didn’t have any time to do so.

I gathered a group of my class mates and showed them my film and took notes on what they thought was, good and bad. Here some of what they had to say and my own thoughts on the film.

What’s good –

The different camera shots and effects that are within the movie, these are liked because there adds something different each time one is used. For example, one that was pulled up is the time-lapse of the bar that had people socialising and drinking on one side and on the other theses the staff working hard to get the orders through. This was liked because it shows what its really like one night, its not staged or set up. Another thing that was said to be good was the information, people said that it was insightful and worth listening to, it made you want to go.

What’s bad –

In the interview the lighting was a little dark and could have needed to be shot were there was more natural light. This is something that I would have liked to improve if we had more time and a later deadline.

Regarding law and ethical guidelines, I am unsure what I can do and were or were I cant put the video, Because of the time-lapse there may peoples faces in the film that may not want to be. When I asked the manager they said that I would be able to put it there and they allowed me to do that. When it comes to anything like copyright its all covered because I took most things myself and when not I asked for the permission to use it.

CONCLUSTION –

The planning would have been done for longer so I could gather a wider range of ideas and facts but what I did do went well. The research would have been done with a larger group of people and then even a second follow up survey. When it comes to the product it could have had more information going in to detail about the vitreous different events.

5.3.1 Evaluation

My action plan for my for my bulletin was to produce a piece of audio that informs and entertains a large mass audience of all ages, both genders and all economic statuses. The planning of the bulletin was again very effective, using the internet to find news stories that were current and local worked well because it was easy to find the local story’s on the web. I met the deadline and uploaded it to sound cloud on time and in the right format. There were one major constraint that we had to consider and that was to do with exporting the audio files off the microphones on to the PC’s, this is because the PC’s at college don’t have to right software so we overcame this by relocating to another classroom so we could carry on with the editing the audio.

The research we did was all on the internet looking at different local news sites to find story’s that were interesting and relevant to us and Sheffield.  I found that these methods of research were very effective because they were fast and simple to find. We used our findings to produce scripts on what we were going to say. In a perfect world I could have done more research with more time and then I could have gotten other people ideas and thoughts on what I had found in the early stages of the research.

I think the product does fit the purpose of been a radio bulletin, it follows the codes and conventions of audio of this standard. It has an intro and a catchy jingle to start, like most big named radio stations do. The technical quality for example to zoom microphones could have been improved because they did pick up some load breathing noises and lots of background noise that we had to edit out. At the result of this production I have developed my band garage editing skills. I think my bulletin would appeal to the target audience because it has a divers story’s that anyone can be interested in. I didn’t do any audience research before the production just because we didn’t have any time to do so.

I gathered a group of my class mates and showed them my bulletin and took notes on what they thought was, good and bad. Here some of what they had to say and my own thoughts on the bulletin.

News values – do you think the stories were in the most engaging order?why?

  • “tech story first”
  • “yes because the most news worthy story is at the beginning”

Style – informal, formal, chatty ect. was the style fit for purpose/audience ?why?

  • “yes because the language is fairly informal and simplistic so the target audience can understand”
  • “informal style”
  • “young sounding news”

Technical quality – consider pace, levels, sound, cue ins and outs, links to clips.

  • “some of the sound is louder than other parts”
  • “the pace is easy to follow”
  • “interview could do with been louder”

Language and presentation – Did you understand the stories? Was the language appropriate for the audience? Did the presenter speak too fast or too slow? Were there pauses between stories ? Errs or umms?

  • “The language was appropriate for the target audience because it was simple
  • “It all flows smoothly, no errs or umm”
  • “Stories are young bases and not to serious”
  • “Language was easy to understand”
  • “Reece spoke at a good pace and clear”

Regarding law and ethical guidelines, it does follow them because the entire story’s haven’t been copyrighted and can be talked about anywhere. Also the jingle was made for us so there is no copyright for that either.

CONCLUSION –

The planning would have been done for longer so i could gather a wider range of ideas and facts. The research would have been done with a larger group of people and then even a second follow up survey. When it comes to the product we could have uses a better quality microphone to pick up only the voices of the people we wanted to and to be in a sound prof studio.

7.3.1 Evaluation of my website

My action plan for my website was to produce a technology and travel site that was easy to navigate so that all ages can use the site. The plan was effective  and made me more aware  of what I needed to do in a cretin time scale and deadline. The only concern was what the colour scheme was going to be to make sure it applied to both genders and ages.

I did research on the internet to find different layout designs that I liked and then looked at putting my ideas into them, I found that these methods of research were very effective because they were fast and simple to find. We uses the research to make drawings of our ideas before we started using muse. In a perfect world I could have done more research with more time and then i could have gotten other people ideas and thoughts on what I had found in the early stages of the research.

I think the product does fit the purpose of been a website, it follows the codes and conventions of a site of this standard. It has a layout that other large names sites use like pintrest and tumbler. The technical quality, for example the hyperlinks with in the images, could have been done better. For instance there could have been writing telling you were and what you were clicking on to to read. I did develop my technical skills as a result of this production and that was on the software we had to used to make the sire, Adobe muse.I didn’t do any audience research before the production just because we didn’t have any time to do so.

I gathered a group of my class mates and showed them my site and took notes on what they thought was, good and bad. Here some of what they had to say and my own thoughts on the site.

Whats good –

The colour is well thought out and they all tie in together, this is good because it all links in some way so that when you look at it its easy on the eyes and this flows throughout the site. It’s simple but effective meaning the design is very current and its what people know and like. The content is useful and has a point, it isn’t meaningless and a waste of time to read. There is a rage of media that includes images and videos.

Whats bad –

Once you click into the article it could be seen as bland other than the videos that are there. You can’t access the galley page because there isn’t a button for it so it is a bit pointless it been there. There is nothing on the home page telling the reader what they are going to read because all they can see is images.

The site itself –

The site itself works, because you can navigate thought the different pages from the home screen and still get back. There is video content that works and plays when on the page. The site is also eye catching the colours make it eye catching and because the boarders around the images are white when the mouse isn’t on them, when it is the blue is shown and this is a really strong contrasting colour.

Regarding law and ethical guidelines, it does follow them because all the images on the site that wasn’t mine have been taken from a stock site which has no copyright to the images. Also with regards to the video content which comes from YouTube, there is no copyright law been broken there because YouTube allows you to share there videos and because i have not branded it as my own its fine to use.

CONCLUSION –

The planning would have been done for longer so I could gather a wider range of ideas and facts. The research would have been done with a larger group of people and then even a second follow up survey. When it comes to the product the images that have been used for the buttons could have been my own images instead of me getting them of a website that has no copyright. There could be more media content within the articles to get people more interested in the site and then move on to other articles and see more. The home page buttons would have writing on them when someone’s mouse went over them so they knew what they were clicking on to read.

IMovie post production – Unit 6.2.2

Today we have been using IMovie on the macs on test pieces of footage so we can have some experience using it because we bring in our own final footage to uses for this project.  The screen shot below shows what I have done today, I have imported different clips of video in to the software and then put transitions in-between them to create a professional looking film that looks clean and fresh.I have mainly used the transition “close blur” because it looks the most professional because its not cheesy and dent spin it simple but yet very effective. I have also added some audio to the bottom of the film meaning I had to adjust the sound of the video footage so it didn’t interfere with the music. Eventually I will have an interview with in my film which mean I will have to fade out the music so you can here the person speak and than the have finished speaking the music will fade back in.

5.2.2 – Radio Recording & Editing

To produce our radio bulletins we had to go and record our scripts, that we had made last week, with a zoom mic again there were problems we had to over come when recording. One big one was background noise, with college been a busy place people are every were so fining a quiet spot is hard to do. I found a few spots around the college that were quiet but they had too much of a ecco which the mic picked up. Once i had found a quiet spot with nobody around i began to record the script that bit was the easy bit. once we had done that we then had to come and put the recordings on to the mac so we could start to edit them in garage band. Here was the next problem because the microphones were so sensitive to the sound they picked up everything, even breathing, so we had to cut and crop all the load burst of sound out of the track so it sounded clean and professional. Then we had to all in a jingle that had been made for the bulletin this again bought problem when editing the sound. We had to move up all the piece so there were plenty of room at the beginning for the jingle to fit in to place this meant that some of the smaller cuts of edited sound sometimes didn’t get highlighted when been ,over so were lost of left behind  so then we had to start the hole proses again.

Finaly we had to upload the bulletin which meant exporting it out of garage band which had to be done by sharing it as if it was going to be put on to iTunes. Then we had to upload it on to sound cloud which was very straight forward, we had to make an account, verify that account and then simply upload the piece with a hashtag.

Build your website 7.2.2

Today we are building our websites and there are a few factors we had to come across whilst doing this. One of the first ones had to bee actually choosing the idea we were going to base the site on, i choose the masonry layout which is easy to produce and use. Then we had to do on to muse and start making it.

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 10.24.36.png

Here alone there were problems, one been that you needed to have the same ammonite of space inbertween the boxes so it didn’t look off and stupid. So this took a while to work out but after getting them all even it looks clean and professional.

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 10.24.48.png

Then after adding the articles to the relevant images/buttons, you can then click from image to article and then by going to the home button you can get back to the home page with all the information you need.

I did however run in to some problems when making my site, one been the you tube clips and them not working whilst been in the design view on muse. Once you had the right information in the you tube tab, only copied what was after the equals sign and had gone in to the preview setting then it started to work and i could move on.

Another problem I had faced was the indication of you hovering over the buttons, the home button and all the articles. Even when you did click on them nothing was happening. This was because I had not set the hyperlinks up to move from page to page. After i had set up the links i still faced the problem of people needing to know that it was a button they were pressing. So I added a boarder and changed the states so you could visually see what you were hovering over the button.
